He pointed out that the Egyptian film archive includes more than 1,400 films, each considered a masterpiece worth preserving. Fahmy pointed out that this year, the Cairo Film Festival witnessed the restoration of ten of the most prominent cinema classics, with ten other films included in the restoration plan.
He pointed out that the restoration center in the Media Production City is one of the best centers, as it provides impressive results in restoring the quality of films. He added that displaying one of the latest restoration results caught the attention of many interested parties, which prompted companies and individuals from outside Egypt to express their desire to restore their works inside Egypt after they had resorted to restoration centers in other countries.

A special day to honor Shadi Abdel Salam
For his part, the Minister of Culture, Ahmed Heno, explained that the film "The Mummy" by Shadi Abdel Salam is among the films that will be restored. He also announced a special day to honor the great director Shadi Abdel Salam on December 11, in appreciation of his unique contributions to Egyptian cinema.
Hano added: There is a large project to work on restoring the original copies of the films, because they are considered treasures of Egyptian culture and cinema, and cannot be dispensed with. The minister pointed out that the restoration process is not limited to restoring the quality of the image only, but also re-emphasizes the shades and contrast between the dark and light areas within the frame, which makes the viewer appreciate the fine details that may have been lost over time. He stressed that working on restoration with such precision is considered a major challenge, as dealing with black and white in the compositions of the frame is much more difficult than dealing with colors.
The minister added: We are talking here about an integrated concept. The truth is that this thought carries a comprehensive vision. Let me clarify a common point: Culture is by nature largely two-dimensional, as its dimensions consist of the various activities and events that occur continuously, but the true depth of culture lies in its historical and value-based essence.
He concluded by saying that this depth, represented by the cultural heritage and ingrained behaviors, is what gives these activities and events their true value and richness. It is what makes these practices wiser and deeper. As long as this history and heritage are preserved and taught to filmmakers and researchers, we ensure the continuity of the current generation and the sustainability of its impact on future generations. This is the fundamental pillar that supports the present and builds the future.
