Madinet Misr Revive The Architectural Heritage

Madinet Misr, one of Egypt's leading real estate developers, announced the launch of the "Khalifa Houses" urban renewal project on Al-Rukbiya Street. The project aims to revitalize the urban fabric in the heart of historic Cairo and address its most endangered urban patterns.

The project was developed in collaboration with the Urban Thought Association and supported by the Supreme Council of Antiquities. This reflects Madinet Misr's corporate social responsibility strategy, which aims to preserve and rehabilitate archaeological sites and historic buildings.

The "Khalifa Houses" project is located in the heart of historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It aims to restore historic buildings and rehabilitate the urban fabric while preserving cultural identity and improving the quality of life for residents.

The project spans an area of 3,000 square meters on Al-Rukbiya Street. It includes the restoration of two historic buildings, the renovation of 19 facades of modern buildings, and the development of 1,200 square meters of public spaces through paving, landscaping, and lighting. It also includes establishing two urban farms irrigated with groundwater collected from groundwater reduction projects at archaeological sites. It also promotes heritage industries and provides educational and professional opportunities, all within the framework of the city of Misr's commitment to achieving sustainable development, preserving Egyptian heritage, and promoting Cairo as a global tourist destination.

It's worth noting that the "Khalifa Houses" project is part of the "Athar Lana" initiative launched by the Urban Thought Association in the Khalifa area in 2012. This initiative combines heritage preservation, social and economic empowerment through heritage industries, and sustainable urban development. The project is linked to two national tourism development initiatives: the development of Citadel Square, located 500 meters east of the site, and the Prophet's Descendants Trail, which the project extends through. The "Khalifa Houses" project is scheduled to begin in May 2025 and will last for three years.
