The Afro-Asian Union "AFASU" has awarded Luxor the world's first capital of culture, history, and heritage. Following the competition and final round with the Japanese city of Kyoto, this choice was made.
The International Supreme Committee for the Golden "Afaso Awards", which has 42 members and representatives from all international and global institutions and entities, unanimously decided that Luxor should win in honor of Luxor's standing as a symbol of human civilization and culture.
Notably, Luxor is a city in Upper Egypt, which includes the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes. Often referred to as the "world's greatest open-air museum," the modern city houses the remnants of the ancient Egyptian temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor. Moreover, the structures, temples, and tombs of the West Bank Theban Necropolis, encompassing the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, are located directly opposite the Nile River.
