"Perfumes of Ancient Egypt Through the Ages" is a temporary exhibition on the ancient perfume industry that was organized by the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir in collaboration with the Hieroglyphics Foundation, the prestigious Lapex Archimedes laboratory, and the University of Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 in France.
By showcasing a selection of perfume-related artefacts from the collections of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Museum of Islamic Art in Bab al-Khalq, and the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo, the exhibition seeks to illuminate the ancient Egyptian perfume industry, its applications, diverse compositions, and related rituals.
A collection of artefacts pertaining to perfumes in ancient Egypt can be found in the exhibition, including statues of Queen Hatshepsut and the god Amun-Ra, scenes of the journey Hatshepsut sent to Punt to bring products used to make perfumes, like frankincense and myrrh, and a collection of dried antique flowers from the New Kingdom, the vessels used to store perfumes, and manuscripts with perfume preparation recipes.
