African continent is Soraya
Mohamed. Her ambitions know no limits.
Soraya Mohamed has always known that she is unique even.
Soraya Mohamed El Degheidy was born on July 16, 1995, and is ranked as one of the top 10 players in the world by the International Basketball Federation. Her nickname is Cleopatra of Egyptian basketball. She started playing for the Egyptian Shooting Club, then moved to the Egyptian Al-Ahly Club in the 2018-2019 season. Since then, she has been the club's favorite basketball player. Soraya caught attention with the utmost simplicity during the 3×3 African Championship win in Uganda. She was able to win the award for best player in the tournament after scoring 48 points. Soraya also has many skills, but she plays in two positions (1) as a playmaker or center, and (2) as a scorer in the attacking wing position.
Soraya started playing at the age of eight. She played many sports in her early days, like any other child, including basketball and tennis, and settled on continuing to play basketball. She found herself special and distinguished by it. She was doing more things than the rest of her teammates, such as dribbling and quickly absorbing the coach’s instructions. At that time, the coach told her, “You will be a star,” which made her love basketball more, and search for what being a star is and how to achieve it. At the age of fifteen, she joined the Egyptian national team and was the best player in Africa.
Soraya did not
face difficulties with Al-Ahly and the national team. This is
because she was provided with everything she needs to win more tournaments.
Soraya praised the level of basketball teams in Egypt, saying, “The Egyptian Basketball Federation cares about all teams, men and women. They also provide what the teams need, such as camps, African championships, and the presence of female professionals at the highest level, so the level of Egyptian basketball is advancing.”
Soraya was among the best individual
performers in the world in 2019, and she said, “I never expected that, and this
is considered an achievement for Egypt before it is an achievement for me, and
I am also very proud because I achieved something for my country, Egypt, and
that motivates me to achieve more victories with the Egypt national team".
The Egyptian champion did not expect these achievements, because they exceeded her expectations, and she is “very happy” with what she has achieved throughout her career as a basketball player, and she still has a lot to achieve. She also hopes to win many championships, such as the Olympics and the World Cup.
There must be people around us who encourage us and motivate us in what we’re doing, which is applied to Soraya’s life, That’s why she said, “What motivates me to obtain more achievements and championships is for my family and my husband to be proud and happy with what I do, because they are the most important thing in my life.”
Soraya revealed the reason for naming her this title and said, “It
was the
International Basketball Federation that gave her the
title “Cleopatra of Egypt,” and it is one of my favorite titles, due to my
excellence in the African Championship, and me being named the best player in
Africa and the top scorer in the tournament.”
In any profession, there are people who influence us positively and always provide the best. That person in Soraya’s life is Mahmoud Al-Khatib, who is always keen to be present at all the team’s matches. To give them psychological and moral support, he always tells them, “You have to win because of the fans and because you play in the best club in Africa.” Soraya is also optimistic about his presence in the matches, and the team does their best to win the match; and make him happy.
Soraya also dreams of representing Al-Ahly Club when she retires, as it is the club she belongs to and is “a pride for any player.”
Soraya revealed her routine before
any match, and said, "I go to bed early and wake up early as well, and on
the day of the match I watch the way the opponent plays to understand him more.
I like to focus before each match, and sit alone a lot, so as not to be
distracted by anything."
She also loves
spending time outside with her family and friends, and watching movies at the
cinema.
Any famous personality has negative
and positive comments on social media, despite what she does. Soraya explained
how she deals with social media, saying, “It is normal, for there could be
different opinions on social media, and I do not look at or be affected by
criticism. On the contrary, it gives me motivation to continue and achieve the
best.”
