Ahmed El-Sayed Refaat, born on June 20, 1993, is a professional football player from Egypt. He showed a great love for the beautiful game at a young age. Refaat was raised in a football-loving household, and his parents saw his potential and supported him in his gift. He began his playing career at the 2013 African Cup of Nations with the Egypt U-20 national team.  And then moved to ENPPI. He signed with Zamalek in 2016, returned to ENPPI on loan in 2019, and subsequently joined Al Ittihad. He moved to Al Masry in November of 2020. His transfer to Future occurred in October 2021. He went on loan to the Emirati team Al Wahda FC in 2022 after the latter announced the player's participation and signed a deal with future officials. He now plays for Future as a forward.

Refaat is a flexible player who can fit into several different roles. His primary role is that of an attacking midfielder, though. Refaat has established himself as a key member of every squad he plays for thanks to his superb ball control, vision, and ability to set up goals. Refaat has won three championships during his career so far, the first of which was the Egyptian Super Cup with Zamalek Club in 2015-2016, and a year later he won the Egypt Cup with Zamalek as well, then in 2022 he achieved the Egyptian League Cup championship with Modern Future Club.

Reda Abdel-Al explained that Ahmed Refaat was the only one who didn't take his right in the Egyptian team under the leadership of Carlos Queiroz, as he wonderfully played in the Arab Championship and scored one of the most beautiful goals in the history of the Arab Championship. He described the goal as an “international” one, and Refaat was supposed to join the Egyptian team. He was also supposed to be listed in the African Nations Championship and the World Cup qualifiers. But some players are less skilled than him, and they play abroad, so the attention is directed to them, and they are included in the national team as well.

Abdel-Al added that Ahmed Refaat is a very influential player, and when he is playing in matches, he can make a difference, whether in performance or results. Finally, Reda prayed for Ahmed Refaat to quickly recover.

On March 11, overnight, Ahmed Refaat went from being a brilliant player with his team to a player that everyone was hoping would return. Nobody saw what happened to him when he unexpectedly collapsed on the field in a local league match between Modern Future and Al Ittihad. He had entered the game as a substitute in the 61st minute and fell by himself in the final minutes. An ambulance took him from Alexandria Stadium to the hospital right away. The athlete reportedly underwent cardiac testing after being sent to a medical facility, according to Egyptian media. The match ended in a scoreless draw on the first day of Ramadan, and the referee elected to blow the final whistle before further time was counted since the two teams refused to play in the face of the spectators' cries. However, the local media stated that Refaat's status was stable and that he had a collapse in blood circulation. In addition, a large number of supporters gathered in front of the Alexandria hospital to inquire about the health of the former Al-Ittihad player. Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, also visited the hospital to inquire about Refaat's condition after attending the game in the stands.

On March 18, Walid Dabas, president of the Modern Future Club, revealed in television statements: “There is a very slow improvement, and we hope that during the next week, there will be more improvement in the lungs and that he will be removed from the ventilator, because the player Ahmed Refaat is not in a coma, but rather Under the influence of medications to return the lungs to normal quickly.”. He continued: "The player is not in a coma, especially since he opened his eyes during the past hours and asked for water, after the effect of the anesthesia diminished, and he is hearing and understanding some things.". He added: "The kidney issue is not a problem at all. The most important thing is that breathing is stabilized and that the lungs respond to medications and treatment. The doctors have made a great effort during the last period, and we pray for his recovery.". He declared in his statements: “The lung takes time to treat, and the percentage of oxygen pumped from the ventilator to the player is improving, but slowly, and we hope to reach a point of improvement to remove him from the ventilator.”

On March 19, according to the Arab World News Agency, the Future Club said in a statement: “Thank God, the respirator was disconnected from the player Ahmed Refaat, and consciousness was partially restored, but until now the player is still under close medical observation, until all medical matters stabilize.". The hospital where Ahmed Refaat was being treated published an official statement about the final developments in the player’s condition, which stated:" As a result of the efforts of the medical staff at the hospital, the player Ahmed Refaat was transferred on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 1 a.m. to Cairo, based on the wishes of the player’s family, This occurred after his general health condition stabilized, the extended dialysis machine was disconnected, consciousness was fully and naturally restored, and all vital signs of the condition stabilized, with coordination from the Future Club administration and the medical staff responsible for the case in the hospital’s intensive care unit."

On March 30, The head of the hospital, Dr. Hazem Khamis, joined Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, when he paid Ahmed Refaat, a Modern Future player, a visit at the Nile Valley Hospital in Al-Qubba to inquire about the player's health. Throughout the visit, Ahmed Refaat and Ashraf Sobhi spoke about the progress made in Ahmed's health and the conditions needed to finish his treatment at Wadi El Nil Hospital.

In this case, the fans of Zamalek and Al-Ahly agreed to love Ahmed Refaat, as they continued to support him and pray for him at all times, in addition to the fans of Al-Ittihad Club who waited for him in front of the hospital for more than a day. Not only that, players from all Egyptian clubs supported him through social media.
