The Egyptian Ministry of Culture participated in the international initiative "Earth Hour," as part of its commitment to supporting global efforts to preserve the environment. On Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM, the lights at several cultural and heritage landmarks were turned off for one hour.
The shutdown included the Egyptian Opera House, art and national museums,
cultural centers, and theaters, while continuing the Ramadan events and
activities held within these institutions.
Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, the Minister of Culture, confirmed that the ministry's
participation in "Earth Hour" comes within the framework of
coordination and cooperation with the concerned authorities, foremost among
them the Ministry of Environment, to ensure the achievement of environmental
sustainability goals and to enhance societal awareness of the importance of
rationalizing energy consumption.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Culture works alongside various national
institutions to support environmental initiatives through cultural and artistic
events that highlight climate and sustainability issues, emphasizing that
culture and the arts play a crucial role in building a sustainable societal
awareness that preserves natural resources for future generations.
It’s worth mentioning that "Earth Hour" is one of the largest
environmental initiatives in the world, during which lights are turned off at
prominent landmarks, government buildings, and private institutions, with the
aim of highlighting the importance of energy conservation and supporting
environmental sustainability.
